Is there such a thing as CONSCIENCE?

Integrity – that’s the word that I keep thinking for a quite a while now.

Living in truth and honesty don’t mean much to people so long as they can get what they want, sometime at the expense of others. Wonder how their conscience feel?

Well, about 4 months ago I recruited a fresh poly graduate as my Engineering Assistant after the previous staff tendered his resignation. So far, all these young workers just can’t persevere in engineering work. Engineers live a dog life, at least mine is like that. I fight problems almost everyday.

This fresh grad was a China scholar. I thought she has a desire to do engineering as I asked her during the interview. Now that she has gotten her Permanent Resident (PR) pass, she tendered her resignation immediately. So her intention to get a job is to qualify for the PR status.

I have spent a lot of time teaching her and training her. At first, I was wondering why a bright student (with good results) can be such a slow learner. I have to keep teaching her the same thing. Now I know, her intention is just to get the PR. That is why she is not interested to learn. Also, she is so prone to take medical leaves and go on leaves; it becomes a liability to the company.

We all like to put on a false front (like this staff), but how does one conscience feel?

sometimes i wonder whether these people have a conscience? i have a classmate who didn't declare that she was seeing a psychiatrist for depression, suicide, insomnia and somehow managed to slip into this sch undetected and she has been causing so many people problems ever since she got in - not turning up for team discussions, not attending lessons which are "not-useful", feigning illness, making insensitive, sometimes lewd remarks, and in general very self-centred (that is the general consensus of many people). and on the sly, she curries favour with all the faculty members, senior consultants and other doctors who teach us, confiding in them about exaggerated family problems, etc etc to earn their pity. i guess she feels that making herself well-known will help her advance the corporate ladder? when there was once at least 1/3 of the class despised her because of a series of events, i gently told her about the things that were not rubbing others off on the right way cos she was so unaware of how she was getting on others' nerves, in the hope that she wld not further offend them. and she started blaming others and hating them with a vengeance. it makes me really cynical, as to why people who don't really seem to have a conscience or heart for other people are given a place to study in med sch. but i guess such people are all around...

Hi Wei Lin,
Thanks for sharing your encounter with a classmate.

And yes, there will be people whom we cross path with such behaviour. As for me, I am wiser now and all the more to continue in living a life that is right in the sight of God. After all, we are all accountable to HIM.
